"Welcome, Ms. Yimara to my lab. If you'd allow me to take some samples we can begin immediately my dear." Sinister said as he took a rather large syringe out. "This'll probably feel a bit uncomfortable."
"Hold on, You want to stick that thing in me? That's big enough for a bone marrow transplant." Kari said with her eyes widening at the sight of the enormous syringe. "Is that much really necessary?"
"Of course my dear, the more I have to work with the better. Don't worry it'll be over faster than you think." Nathaniel said gently pricking the first layer of skin before pushing the needle the rest of the way in and extracting the genetic material. Immediately the initial analysis began.
For a few hours all Kari could do was sit back and wait contemplating her decision. Was it really the right thing to do? Of course it wasn't. And every few minutes she hoped that Logan would come bursting through the door and taking her away from there for good. But no, there could be no such heroic rescue and any belief in the otherwise would be nothing more than a foolhardy fantasy.
"How long is this gonna take, Sinister?"
"Please Ms. Yimara, call me Dr. Essex. I'm terribly sorry for the delay, but I had to check twice just to be sure. It seems your in a rather delicate situation at the moment. Have you been feeling nauseated? Had consistent stomach pains, cramps, or vomiting? Irritation in the chest area?"
"No... What are you talking about I get a little dizzy here and there but nothing over the top. What do you think I'm..?"
"So you're unaware... Kari, you're in fact well into your first trimester, I can tell already that you've been pregnant for almost two months now."
"That's impossible, how can I even get pregnant? I'm over two-hundred and fifty years old. I mean yeah I still have a cycle about once every five years but it's been just over that long. I'd assumed that I'd lost my last chance. Besides that look at me! I hardly look pregnant."
"I assure you my dear, you are indeed with child. And you should start to expand in the abdominal area quite soon in fact. I recommend you stay here for a couple of days while I resolve the issue with your other powers. After that, you should go back with the X-Men, for sentimental reasons.
"The only reason I'll go back there is to give them there precious Jean and the professor. Staying isn't an option. The father of my child hates me, the entire team probably does as well. Besides how can I tell a man that no longer loves me that I'm having his child?"
"This no doubt sounds strange coming from me. But if you truly want to leave that life behind you need to close it completely. Tell Logan about you condition, and when he rejects you, then you'll know your place is here. Among my Marauders, at my side. You deserve better than him Kari. But you must do this." With that he turned and walked over to a cabinet mixing up a strange concoction before walking over to Kari and injecting it into her. "This will help you, with you pregnancy. It'll slow down your healing factor. But just as well, we wouldn't want it to treat your child like a virus, now would we?"
"You're either ore cunning than I thought, or not as bad as I thought. Either way... I was wrong about you." Kari said as an overwhelming feeling of drowsiness took hold and she fell asleep.
"Rest, you'll be cared for while I work on resolving your powers."
